Holidays to Sunny Beach

You might think that the name leaves little to the imagination, but shining skies and shimmering Bulgarian sands are just the start of a holiday to Sunny Beach.

Soak up the sun(ny beach)

As you’ve probably gathered, the Black Sea’s biggest resort isn’t shy about enjoying beach life. And who can blame it? Between Bar Mexo and Viking Beach Bar, Bulgaria begs you to show off your best shapes with the sand under your soles.

If you’re here to pamper rather than party, Secrets Beach Club brings the spa right to the beachfront. Or if you’d prefer to earn your RR & R (that’s rest, recuperation and rakia brandy), hit the main drag for paragliding, wakeboarding, banana boats and more high-octane activities.

Bulgarian cuisine with a side of acrobatics

When it comes to dining in Sunny Beach, you’ve got to sample some local classics. We’re talking pepper, tomato, cucumber and feta shopska salad, moussaka and chicken kavarma stew.

For the ultimate eating out experience, book a table under Khan’s Tent. Here, you’ll listen to live music, watch cabaret and whoop at tight-rope walkers and acrobats, all while dining on fresh seafood, spit-roasted meat and Bulgarian fare with a modern twist. Expect to leave with your belt a little looser than when you arrived (yep, it’s that good).

Take a day away from the bay

Slanchev bryag, as the locals call Sunny Beach, is a dream for a fly-and-flop beach break. But if you’re thinking it’s a shame to head all this way without soaking up some culture, don’t fret. There are plenty of UNESCO-crowned attractions to explore.

Take the water taxi to the World Heritage Site at Nessebar for ancient Ottoman churches, fortress walls, traditional Bulgarian architecture and those cutesy cobbled streets we love so much.

There’s a beautiful beach here too, but it gets even better. Prop yourself up in Michael’s Eco Bar among the stalagmites and raise a tipple to the resident turtles.

Sneak Peek

Best for... Bargain-loving Brits seeking a holiday in the sun 😎

Go... To Nessebar to experience a more authentic Bulgaria 🇧🇬

You have to... Wander down Flower Street – by day or night, it’s a sight🍹

The clue’s in the name at Sunny Beach

Strictly speaking, there’s only one beach out here (no prizes for guessing the name). But different parts of Sunny Beach have distinctly different vibes. Head to the slap bang centre for Sunny Beach at its boldest, brashest best – think bars, clubs, casinos, long strips of sun-loungers and a whole world of watersports.

For something more serene, head north towards Nessebar. You’ll find the same golden sands and glorious warm sea, but with fewer fellow tourists vying for a spot by the shore.

Nights to remember (if you can!)

Sunny Beach is just as bright after dark. This place has you covered for cocktails, pub-pulled pints, fishbowls and shots. If you’re in the mood for sensory overload, take a wander down the strip on Flower Street.

Kick things off at The Corner Piano Bar with an umbrella in your glass, find your sense of humour in Funny Pub along the way and end your night with a horn of your favourite poison at Viking Beach Bar.

If you’ve still got space for some shots, make your way through the huge menu at popular Brit hangout Bar Iglika.

Water way to entertain the fam

Sunny Beach has a rightful rep as a place to party. But there’s entertainment for the little ones by the Black Sea too, including a thrilling water park.

Sunny Beach Aquapark is a mega maze of fantastic flumes, slippery slides and rivers, both lazy and otherwise. With rides like the Black Hole, Twister and Kamikaze, you can expect some white knuckles!

Little ones still looking for something to do? Of course, they arrr! Book them on the Sun & Fun pirate cruise to play to their hearties content.

When to go to Sunny Beach

With over 300 days of shining sun every year, Sunny Beach certainly takes its name literally. To bask in the best of it, touch down between June and August. Temperatures in the high 20Cs are perfect for topping up your tan.

For a cheap holiday in Sunny Beach while the sun’s still got its hat on, hop over in May or September. But do check the sitch before you book as Sunny Beach is super seasonal. Some bars, restaurants and attractions may not have opened their doors in early May and might close for the winter by late September.
