Vltava River and Charle bridge in Prague with autumnal greenery

Holidays to Prague

Historic castles, fairytale architecture and super cheap beer – all just a bargain flight away. Czech out this picturesque European city on a holiday to Prague.

City breaks fit for a king (or queen)

When it’s time for some history, head straight to Prague’s 70,000 square metre castle complex.

Prague Castle is much more than its name suggests. Like a Russian doll, it opens up to reveal St Vitus Cathedral, the presidential palace and colourful centuries-old streets. Climb the 300 steps of the Cathedral’s Great South Tower for incredible views over the city.

Pint of pivo?

Whatever you do in Prague, don’t badmouth beer. Getting happy on the hop juice is a rite of passage out here.

Taste the tipple at its crafty best with a tour of the Strahov Monastery Brewery. Or grab a cheap brewski with a view-ski in Letna Park Beer Garden. Heck, at the Original Beer Spa, you can drink and bathe in the stuff at the same time!

An artistic adventure

Laters, London. Off you pop, Paris. When it comes to Europe’s most artsy city, Prague would like a word. Give public art a chance at the John Lennon Wall and spot Cerny’s creepy Babies sculptures, The Man Hanging Out or the Head of Franz Kafka without so much as setting foot in a museum.

For more traditional masterpieces, head for the National Gallery’s Picassos, Monets and Cézannes. Prefer art by local people? Check out the Convent of Saint Agnes.

It’s festi-full of surprises

Thanks to Prague’s diverse seasons and eclectic event calendar, you can enjoy a totally different experience every time you visit the city.

See in the spring with Prague’s International Music Festival. With opera, orchestras and world-renowned conductors, the event gives off a high society vibe.

Prefer high wire to highbrow? Head to Letni Letna in late August or early September for the International Festival of Contemporary Circus. Visiting in winter? Pop over the Wenceslas Square Christmas Market to get that festive feeling.

Culture and history: Historic and a half

Prague will knock your sightseeing socks off from your first day to your Wences-last. Start at the Old Town Square to ooh and ahh at the enchanting Astronomical Clock and the Our Lady before Týn Church. Take a stroll across the atmospheric Charles Bridge – which is almost 700 years old – and you’ll find yourself surrounded by artists and buskers, as the Vltava River runs underfoot. To see all the sights at once, head up the Old Town Hall Tower and take in St Nicholas Church, Strahov Monastery, Prague Castle and plenty more of this oh-so-pretty city.

Food and drink: Attention taste buds!

It’s time to embrace Czech cuisine! Treat yourself to some traditional classics in elegant surroundings at U Modré kachničky. On the menu, you’ll find wild game, delicious duck and more than a dumpling or two. Prague is home to a large Vietnamese community, and as such, serves up some of the best Vietnamese food this side of Ho Chi Minh. Take a seat at Muc Dong to slurp down some fantastic pho. If all the choice becomes too much, simply munch your way around Manifesto Market Anděl. The container village food hall is all black-bun burgers and photo-worthy poke bowls. And a microbrewery. Because Prague.

Nightlife: Prague after dark

Prague’s nightlife has something for the beer swilling, the beret sporting and every reveller in between. If you want uber-cool cocktail chemistry, head to Hemingway Bar for a hit of the hard stuff. Its long beverage list includes hundreds of rums, a helping of absinthe and the local fire water, becherovka. Over at BeerGeek Bar, meanwhile, you can sip your way through mango sours and chocolate stouts. Still got something in the tank? Club Roxy’s hard house, hip hop and hedonism will see to that.
