Beautiful Porto Roma sandy beach in Tsilvi, Greece

Holidays to Tsilivi

If you like your vibes chilled, your sands white, your waters turquoise and your dinners Greek, a holiday to Tsilivi in Zakynthos is what you’ve been looking for.

By boat is the GOAT

All shining sands, luscious green backdrops and terracotta-topped tavernas, Tsilivi’s beach is picture-postcard Greece. And while you’ll want to spend much of your holiday here, the coast is also a portal to plenty more fun.

Hop on a boat after brekkie and you can take in the heavenly hues of the Blue Caves, enjoy the mineral-rich muds of Xigia Beach and say hello to a monk seal – all before tea time!

It’s all ancient Greek to me

Well, maybe not all of it. Tsilivi’s Venetian Watch Tower is, relatively speaking, a lot more recent. And the Venetian Castle of Zakynthos, just ten minutes outside of town, is in remarkably good nick considering it’s clocked up over 400 years.

Stranis Hill is well worth a wander too. Its monument may be the landmark, but it’s the views across the island that are truly monumental. Fan of forts? Who isn’t! Vardiola – or Viglatsoura to the locals – has you covered.

You feta believe it

As far as food is concerned, Greece sets the bar as high as Mount Olympus – and Zakynthian cuisine is fit for the Greek gods. Honey and goat cheese, souvlaki and spetsofai (a local fave made of sausage, peppers and tomatoes) are on the do-not-miss list.

Live it up and chow it down like a local at Avli Taverna with stamna beef stew and ‘Chicken a la Zante’. For healthy steaks under the Grecian sky, carnivore ‘til you can’t no more at Palatium.

Turtle-y awesome

Tsilivi’s most famous residents are bald with a hard outer exterior. No, not Dwayne Johnson – we’re talking about loggerhead sea turtles. The locals go to great lengths to protect these endangered species, so the least you can do is pop by the National Marine Park Area to say hello!

Make sure to bring your snorkel to Turtle Island too. It’s the perfect spot to swim beneath the waves and make some reptilian friends.

Top beaches: Tsensational tsands

Tsilivi’s beauty of a beach ticks all the boxes. We’re talking glorious golden shores and water clear enough to see the fish swimming around your feet.

Sunbathers are well catered for with comfy loungers and parasols. Need a little adrenaline with your UV? Banana boats, jet-skis and water-skis will see you right. Elsewhere, Bouka is a quieter cove a few minutes along the coast. Head here with nothing but a good book and plenty of water in your beach bag.

Parties more epic than the Odyssey

Just like a well-ordered meze, Tsilivi’s nightlife has a little something for everyone. And most of it is in Planet Pub. This place has games, an al fresco dancefloor and a cocktail menu longer than the Greek classics.

Add a little local flair to your evening at Paradise Cocktail Bar. Arrive in time for one of their famous Greek Nights and expect to be ouzo’d to the eyeballs.

Family-friendly: Yamas to the youngsters!

Tsilivi is perfect for whipper snappers, older revellers and everyone in between. And nothing brings the brood together like a splish-splashing water park. Slides at Tsilivi’s include Turbolance, Black Hole, Space Hole and Aqua Jungle – and their names definitely do them justice!

There’s also more fun for the fam at Fantasy Mini Golf, where you’ll find four 18-hole courses packed with volcanos, dinosaurs and caves. Is there a pirate ship, too? Yaaaarrrrrr!

When to go to Tsilivi

For a beach holiday with the sun at its peak, head over in July or August. You can expect temperatures in the high 20s and blue skies in all directions. You should still enjoy great beach weather in June and September too.

Cheap holidays to Tsilivi are at their most credit card-friendly in the off-season (between November and April). But the beaches aren’t at their best and the town is all but fast asleep. So, for a proper bargain break with body-bronzing weather, get here in the comfortable early 20C temps of May or October.
