View of Mojacar Village in Spain behind green mountains

Holidays to Mojacar

Blessed with stunning scenery, fantastic food, beautiful Mediterranean beaches and a helping of history, holidays to Mojacar in Spain are all fun, sun and jamon!

A very Spanish escape

A pinch of art, a smidge of history, a sprinkling of nature and a load of entertainment – holidays to Mojacar have all bases covered in this quiet, charming corner of Andalusia.

Start your Spanish adventures with a café con leche on one of the town's many terraces or streetside cafes, then go for a wander and see where the cobbled alleys take you. When it's time for a siesta, simply head to a sandy beach (more on these below) and lay out your towel. Pure bliss!

The great Andalusian countryside

Andalusia is your oyster if you hire a car. Just an hour south of Mojacar, you’ll find the jaw-to-the-floor mountains of Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park (think volcanic cliffs and crashing waves).

For some rather more arid amazingness, head inland to Europe’s one and only desert, Tabernas. Stop by at OasysMini Hollywood, the backdrop to some of your favourite Spaghetti Westerns (like For a Few Dollars More) to walk in the dusty boot prints of Clint Eastwood and co. It’s old-school movie magic come to life!

Fiestas and celebrations

Flamenco – that intense, foot-stomping, frill-flinging dance – originated in Andalusia. Catch flamenco dancers at their dramatic best during the Annual Flamenco Festival at Teatro del Centro de Usos Múltiples in December. If you can’t make it then, you can still catch live shows in places like El Pimiento.

Elsewhere, February’s Carnival (which is full of people in amazing costumes), June’s Moors and Christians celebration (a little history lesson) and August’s St Augustine festival (make sure you catch the ribbon race on horseback) completely transform the village.

You have to sea it to believe it

If you’ve got Blue Flag beauty, sunbeds, kids’ play areas and wave-riding watersports on your beach bingo card, Las Ventanicas is a full house! For another sandy Mediterranean masterpiece – with added beach bars and wadeable shallows – try Cantal at some point in your Mojacar holiday. Expect more Blue Flag brilliance as standard. Looking to avoid your fellow sun worshippers? It has to be El Peñon Cove. What it lacks in facilities, it more than makes up for in solitude and serenity.

Si senor, I’ll have some more

From tasty snacks to keep you going when you’re out and about, to full-on feasts that will take an afternoon to consume, Mojacar promises your taste buds a good time. Andalusian specialities include gurullos, fish-infused migas, gazpachos and the mega meaty flamenquín. You’ll find these dishes and much more at local eateries like La Bohemia, Cabo Norte or Neptuno Mojácar. When it’s time to wash down your well-earned feast, El Sitio Vinoteca has a wine list that'll keep your thirst quenched.

Fun in the sun with the little ones

The Marco Topo trail is a real highlight of family holidays to Mojacar. Part treasure hunt, part interactive walking tour, this trail takes you and the fam around the town’s top sights. You’ll take in the spectacular views from Plaza Nueva, the gorgeous flowers of Plaza del Parterre and the whitewashed walls of the beautiful, winding Calle Enmedio. Looking for some high-octane fun? Take the gang to Aquavera for the Aquodrome, Kamikaze, Black Hole and lots more thrilling rides.

When to go to Mojacar

With temperatures typically in the mid-teens and above, there’s never a bad time for holidays to Mojacar. But to worship the Spanish sun at its most wonderfully warm, book in for a week or two between June and September. With temps hovering close to 30C, you’ll be bursting with vitamin D as soon as you step off the plane.

If you want both great weather and a bargain, seek out deals in April, May or October, when temperatures are around the 20s and prices are lower. Visiting outside of peak season means you may get to glimpse an even more authentic side to Mojacar too.
