Holidays to St Lucia

Basking in the sun on a sandy beach, hiking up the impressive Pitons and shaking your hips at a street party, a St Lucia holiday is the Caribbean queen of good times.

A toast to the Caribbean coast

Want a taste of paradise? St Lucia's white-sand beaches and baby blue seas will knock your sliders right off, whether you’re on a romantic getaway or holidaying with the family. Splash through the surf on horseback, swing on a hammock between two palms or take your pick from every watersport under the Caribbean sun.

Twin peaks adventure

For a big ole wallop of adrenaline, hike up the twin peaks of the Pitons, go quad-biking through a plantation or visit the world's only drive-in volcano (yeah, you read that right!). When it comes to active Caribbean adventures, this mango-shaped island does not disappoint.

Jump Up, jump up and get down

Fish fry, ice cold beers and a boogie to reggae, soca and dancehall, there is no party like a Jump Up street party! These merry weekly get-togethers are legendary on a St Lucia holiday and Gros Islet is the most famous destination for it. The quiet fishing village turns into a Caribbean Glastonbury every Friday night with live music, dancing and plenty of rum-fuelled fun.

Ocean vibes: Turtle-y tropical

You can’t travel to this side of the world and not gatecrash the under-sea party! Thanks to the Caribbean’s crystal clear waters and marine-rich reefs, the snorkelling and scuba diving around St Lucia is turtle-y tropical. Go swimming with leatherback turtles on the west coast, snorkel with sailfish and, why not, spot toothy parrotfish off Pigeon Island.

Sweet like chocolate

Chocoholics can go coco loco on a St Lucia holiday because here you can eat it, drink it (chocolate beer, anyone?) and use it as a beauty scrub. Learn all about the sweet stuff on a tree-to-bar tour of the Rabot Estate — the home of Hotel Chocolat.

Don't worry, beach happy

The dark volcanic sands of Anse Chastanet, the golden sweep of Reduit Beach and the silver shores of Laborie Bay, no two St Lucia beaches are alike. To escape the honeymoon crew, head north to Grand Anse Beach. A natural palm-fringed beauty, it’s also a hangout for nesting leatherback turtles. For envy-inducing pics, visit Sugar Beach in the south — a palm-studded, pale-sand haven with a backdrop of the Pitons.

We’re yammin’

From yams and lambi (conch) to breadfruit, St Lucia's food scene is like a wander through a culinary jungle. Head to Castries Market and watch locals haggle over plantains and callaloo. It’s also the best place to try green figs and saltfish, St Lucia’s national dish. The island also likes its stews like it likes its beaches – sizzling hot, hot, hot. Take pepperpot. This rich meat stew is made with hot pimento peppers and cassava juice! Fish fry, meanwhile, is the staple of a Friday night Jump Up. Head to Anse La Raye or Gros Islet, where the party is fuelled by icy Piton beer, local rum punch and reggae.

Soak it like it’s hot

Rainforest trails, waterfalls and volcanos — St Lucia is not short of natural attractions. Don’t miss a visit to the world's only drive-in volcano. Sulphur Springs near Soufriere is the collapsed crater of a volcano and is famed for its mineral-rich mud! Known as the island’s elixir of youth, slather on the magnesium and sulphur-infused mud before washing it off in the natural pools. A St Lucia holiday, it seems, comes with the added bonus of returning home positively glowing!

When to go to St Lucia

It’s easy to see why Brits swap drizzly, cold December for a rum punch in the sun. With plenty of sunshine and a steady 27C, the weather in St Lucia is oh so dreamy.

So, if you’re looking for a sun-kissed winter break and have time for a long-haul trip, this beautiful Caribbean island beckons.

Winter is, unsurprisingly, one of the most popular times to visit Lucia, so resorts can get busy. Expect to share the popular beaches with a few loved-up couples and families.

For a cheap St Lucia holiday that gives you good beach weather without the peak crowds, consider heading to the island in May.
