Holidays to Kos Town

Overview

Kos Town is the island capital and a popular choice for history buffs – the town is bursting with ancient ruins not only from Ancient Greece, but also showing the influence of the Romans, Ottomans and Italians. But this is by no means Kos Town’s only bragging point; it also has several beaches, a stylish and modern harbour lined with restaurants and the best nightlife on the island.

Culture

No effort has to be made to see the history of Kos Town – it’s all around you! The medieval Neratzia Castle by the harbour and the Asklepion are worth a visit, but you’ll find that Roman ruins are dotted around the town for you to discover as you wander. A particular peculiarity of Kos Town is that its home to Europe’s oldest tree, where they say Hippocrates used to teach his pupils.

Nightlife

Kos Town’s party crowd can be found dancing the night away on Diakon Street and Nafklirou Street, where the large number of bars in close proximity makes the area popular for bar hopping. West Bar is one of the best-known for large groups, or if you’re looking for a more relaxed setting try Hamam Bar, a renovated Turkish bath which now has comfy sofas and an open-air dance floor.

Beaches

Despite being best known for its city sights, Kos Town also has three lovely beaches! The main beach, Zouroudi, is the most popular, located right in front of the castle walls and lined with restaurants and beach bars. Next to it is a more spacious beach near the harbour, and if you really want to escape the crowds you can go to Psalidi, a 20-minute walk away but worth it for the peace and quiet.
