Holidays to Lloret de Mar

So, you want sunny beaches, bouncing nightlife, vibrant culture and heaps of outdoor adventures? Done. Make it a Lloret De Mar holiday on the Costa Brava.

Spend your days in the bays

With its Spanish sun, Spanish sea and Spanish beaches, Costa Brava’s Lloret De Mar delivers a timeless, fuss-free summer getaway.

Lay in the sun or enjoy the cool shade of pine tree groves at Cala Banys before grabbing your snorkel for a spot of rockfish spotting. At Canyelles, meanwhile, you can earn that sweat on your brow by surfing, paddleboarding, kayaking or waterskiing. Or just rent a hammock or beach umbrella and take a load off.

Churches, ruins, and botanical delights

Lloret De Mar serves up a ton of art, architecture and history. Take the manicured Santa Clotilde Gardens. With lime trees, lakes, fantastic fountains and stunning statues, it ticks a lot of botanical boxes.

Then there’s the historic Old Town, where you can mosey under the mosaics at the colourful 16th-century Church of Sant Romà, which is all gothic glory and modernist amazingness. If you prefer your history a little (or a lot) older, head up to the ruins at Puig de Castellet — a fortified settlement that was inhabited for around 50 years during the third century BCE.

Let’s get physical

Beached out? Looking for an adrenaline hit? There’s plenty of action to be had in Lloret De Mar. Hop on a quad bike to start with a fun, four-wheel tour of the Costa Brava and, if your knuckles aren’t quite white enough after that, reach new heights with a bungee jump! Jump the 70m (230ft) from Lloret De Mar’s tower solo, or go for a tandem fall.

If you’re more of a hiker, the views from Lloret de Mar’s coastal trails are well worth the steps you’ll rack up on your smartwatch. Try Lloret de Mar to Tossa de Mar or Lloret de Mar to Blanes.

Top beaches: Costa Brav-o!

For a classic sun-kissed Spanish day by the coast, Lloret Beach is where you want to be – think umbrellas for shade, sun-loungers for chilling and plenty of room to get your bronze on. Head to Fenals Beach to spend a day around a sheltered bay. Calm, warm waters are a paddler’s dream, while the wind-breaking rocks make for perfect canoeing conditions. For more sedate days on the Spanish sand, Santa Cristina beckons. The shade of its pine forest is the perfect spot for a siesta.

Nightlife: From siestas to fiestas

Whatever type of nightlife you’re into, Lloret De Mar has an experience to match. Take Cala Banys Cocktail Bar – here you can sip sangria with sensational sea views for company. Then there’s the brilliantly named El Pub. Expect no-nonsense ales and no-nonsense lager. For 24-hour party people, the answer to the question “where’s the party at?” is St. Trop. The three-floor, 2,000-capacity nightclub has been banging out bangers since the early 60s!

Family-friendly: Water a way to bond

Lloret De Mar’s warm shallows make for brilliant family beach days, but when you want to entertain the whole clan away from the coast, where better than Water World? Spend the day splashing around in Tornado Land, race your teens down the kamikazes and tire out your little ‘uns at Kiddie Island. For more twists and turns on terra firma, make a zipline for Abre Adventura. When you’re not racing through the trees on a wire, there’s motor kart racing, flying chairs and a 5D cinema.

When to go to Lloret de Mar

For the ultimate body-bronzing beach break, head for the Costa Brava between June and September. At this time of year, the mercury in Lloret De Mar lingers in the mid-20s while the clouds keep their distance from the sunny Spanish skies.

For a cheap holiday to Lloret De Mar, the off-season (between November and April) is usually your best bet. But with temperatures in the low teens, beach days may not be high on the agenda.

The sweet spots weather- and wallet-wise are the shoulder seasons in May or October. Temps may only be in the teens but the craggy coast and Catalan culture are as beautiful as ever.
