Holidays to Lara Beach

All-inclusive luxury, never-ending stretches of sand and bazaars brimming with Turkish delights, a holiday to Lara Beach will knock your fez off.

A front-row seat on the shore

The clue’s in the name. You come to Lara Beach for… the beach. Expect all Mediterranean mod-cons as standard. Golden sands, warm welcoming waters and a long ol’ stretch of sun loungers.

But with six miles of sand, it’s not only the longest beach in Türkiye. It also has a world of themed hotels lining the shore. You can walk from the Kremlin to Venice in just a few flaps of your flip-flops – and you’ll see Concorde and the Titanic on your way.

Super-bazaar markets

Coming to Türkiye without bumbling around a bazaar is like holidaying in the Alps without hitting the slopes. Haggling is a national sport here.

Lara Street Market is a great place to start. Second-hand garms, sinus stinging spices, freshly picked fruit and veg. It’s all here, and it’s all mighty kind to your holiday budget. Sultan Bazaar is worth a wander too. But be warned – you may leave dressed like one.

Scrub, soak and spa-kle

Traditional Turkish baths and luxurious wellness spas are all over the shop at Lara Beach. Whether you want to be slapped about with a bar of soap or soothed to sleep, the Turks are experts at spa-ing.

Just behind the beach, Mega Hammam is the Ronseal of relaxation. Take your pick from facials, salt therapies, massage, steam rooms and, of course, a mega hammam. It does exactly what is says on the tin.

From ocean to old town

OK, technically it’s the sea. But the point is, Lara Beach doesn’t just give you prime position on the Med. It’s also a quick zip down the coast from one of Türkiye’s coolest old towns.

Kaleiçi could well be the prototype. Think city walls, winding alleys and more monuments than we’ve got space to mention. Be sure to at least check out Hadrian’s Gate and the clock tower before settling into a side-street café for a Turkish coffee and maybe some oh-so-sweet baklava.

A beach within a beach within a beach

We know Lara Beach is where it’s at. But the question is which bit? At the main public beach, you can relax under a sunbrella, sit on the shore with a cold cocktail and whip across the waves on a banana boat, surfboard or your choices of sails.

To do little else but laze on the shore, try wandering further down to Kundu. Or for even more alone time, look to private beach resorts, like the Ramada Resort, Concorde de Luxe or Titanic Beach, for your own exclusive stretch of sand.

Taste some Turkish delights

Türkiye may have given us the kebab, but there’s more to its cuisine than everyone’s favourite late night go-to. Think grilled seafood, cured meats, fresh cheese, baked eggs and delicious dips. And those sweet honey-nut baklava pastries *sigh. AKA all the best foods.

For a meal with a Mediterranean view, settle into Red & White for a traditional Turkish breakfast or cabbage rolls with kavurga (psst, that’s roasted nuts, seeds and grains). For seafood fresh off the boat, head to Lara Balık on the clifftop. It’s literally on the water’s edge. It’s proper five-star swish and super welcoming.

Do go chasing waterfalls

One glimpse of Duden Falls and believe us, you’ll be running right after it. Watch the upper falls crash into the Med or take a boat into the drop zone of its lower little brother. Hop in for a swim while you’re here or take to the trails and caves of Duden Park.

If you’re up for a day trip, pack a bag for the otherworldly Pamukkale thermal springs. When you’re not wading in the milky shallows of the hot spa, you’ll be showing off your cossie in the Queen-tier clear water of Cleopatra’s Pool.

When to go to Lara Beach

Or should that be when not to go? If you’re here for the beach (and let’s face it, you are), give November to April a wide berth. That said, with average temps between 10C and 17C, it’s still a top time to hot spring it or take in the old town.

The best time to bag a body-bronzing beach break is between June and August. Highs are highing between 25C and 29C, and the chance of rain is a distant memory. For a cheap Lara Beach holiday, go in May, September or October when you can still expect temps in the mid-20s.
