Holidays to Miami

Fun is guaranteed on a Miami holiday. The Magic City puts a happy spell on its visitors, with sun-tastic beaches, a lively atmosphere and world-famous nightlife. Abracadabra, indeed!

A-list hotels

Welcome to Miami! Bienvenido a Miami! This buzzing city’s hotels are the stuff of silver-screen dreams. Take in the gold pillars and decadent red theatre in the Baz Luhrmann-designed Faena Hotel. Or get Happy at a pool party at Pharrell Williams’ The Goodtime Hotel. Top tip: in Miami you can often pay to use a pool (and have a nosey) even if you’re not staying at the hotel in question.

Latin vibes

Cafe con leche (sweet, milky coffee), empanadas and mojitos sipped to a Gloria Estefan soundtrack – Miami’s famous Latin culture puts the salsa step in the city. So, conga up to Little Havana to practise your Spanish, browse cigar shops and buy souvenir rum before dancing the night away at a live bachata music bar. Calle Ocho is the heart of Little Havana and a walking tour will uncover its best bakeries and art galleries.

Catch a match

Sports are a huge deal here, so on rainy days, bag some tickets to watch Miami Heat – the Magic City’s NBA basketball team! Alternatively, settle in for a baseball game (hot dog in hand) with the Marlins, or head to the Hard Rock Stadium to support the city’s NFL franchise. Go, Dolphins!

Art, art and more art

Miami’s art scene is booming. Start at Superblue, an immersive, trippy favourite, then head to the Perez Art Museum, where the architecture is just as cool as the contemporary works inside. Wynwood Arts District is the place for street art (and hip bars and restaurants), and you should deffo check out the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA NoMi).

Get back to nature

Slap on some bug spray and head out on a guided tour of the Everglades. This subtropical wilderness is ideal for bird watching (there are 360 species!) and croc spotting. You can explore on foot, in an airboat or by tram. It’s a must for any David Attenborough wannabes!

Best beaches: Spring break sands

South Beach is a white-sand, turquoise-sea fairyland that well and truly earns the title of party central. The palm trees, colourful lifeguard stands, neon-lit art deco architecture and indie cafés along the shore complete the area’s ultra-cool vibes.

For a family-friendly option, toddle to Crandon Park for a sandy beach and amusement centre combo or South Pointe Park for the kids' splash park. You’ll find BBQs, paddleboarding and history tours at Virginia Key Beach Park, a short drive from downtown Miami.

Food and drink: Nacho average food

From nachos and tacos to sushi, artisan cocktails and hand-crafted bagels, Miami is foodie-fantastic. There are modern restaurants, like the Italian Boia De in Buena Vista, and the super-cute ventanitas – small windows where you can buy Cuban-style coffee and breakfast on the go.

Dine at Pastis, a Parisian-style bistro, or tuck into American cuisine against the opulent backdrop of The Surf Club Restaurant. If you want to try upmarket Cuban food, go for Ariete. The trendiest spots for eating and drinking are Sunset Harbour and Wynwood.

Nightlife: Party in the city where the heat is on

It might be called ‘nightlife’, but on a Miami holiday, you can party 24/7. We’re talking pool parties by day and nightclubs featuring celeb DJs by night. Plus, there are all the cocktail bars, comedy nights, cigar lounges and cultural moments.

If it’s a big night out you're after, check out LIV for neon decor and banging tunes. Elsewhere, Basement’s bowling alley and ice-skating rink comes with a decade-spanning soundtrack or you can chillax on Gramps’ terrace with a beer and live music.

When to go to Miami

Hunkering down at home during a bleak midwinter or sipping Cuba Libres in your shades on neon-backed South Beach? We know which one we’d pick! November to April is the best time to visit Miami for warm temperatures and party vibes.

Cheap Miami holidays are easier to come by in the summer when fewer sunseekers visit from further north. The forecast may predict humid weather, possible hurricanes and showers, but don’t worry, there’s plenty of indoor stuff to keep you busy. Perez Art Museum, anyone?
