Overview

Stalis, also known as Stalida in Crete, is a quaint Venetian-style holiday resort situated between party capital Malia and the peaceful beaches of Hersonissos in Greece. Laid back and chilled out, Stalis oozes relaxed sophistication with a 6.5km long beach and pretty buildings lining the narrow streets. There’s also a certain Greek charm to this place with traditional tavernas serving up local specialities and shops selling hand-crafted souvenirs.

Beaches

The beach in Stalis, which is one of the best in Crete, is the main draw for families and couples holidaying here. At 6.5km long, there is plenty of room for everyone, even in the busy summer months. Visitors can walk from Stalis, which is more family-friendly and has a gentle slope into the sea, across towards Malia where there are more activities and watersports available.

Things To Do

Outside of Stalis, visiting the mountain villages of Mochos and Krassi are a great way to see Crete’s beautiful countryside. Alternatively, take a trip to Hersonissos – around 5km to the west of Stalis – and go horse riding in the hills for great views over the mountains. If you’re after something even more active though, head towards Malia for an afternoon of paintballing or go to Acqua Plus, one of the best water parks in Crete!

Food And Drink

There is a huge variety of food in Stalis. If you’re looking for local Greek food, the main street in Stalis is the place to go to for an authentic Cretan dining experience, complete with some Raki at the end of the meal. If you’re craving home-inspired food though, stay by the beach and try out one of the English or Irish-style bars where you can even get a good old pint of Guinness!
