La dolce vita comes easy on holidays to Italy. This legendary country delivers ancient historical attractions, iconic fashion houses, some of the world’s most recognisable artworks, and – of course – that mouth-watering cuisine.
A holiday to Italy has everything. No drab holi-yay snaps here! From the irrepressible cities of Rome, Venice and Milan and the rolling hills of Tuscany, to the sparkling Amalfi Coast and celeb-studded Lake Como, Italy delivers the ideal backdrop for envy-inducing selfies.
Italy’s stunning coastlines are begging you to sail, windsurf, jet-ski or pootle about on a paddleboard. You can even scuba dive through ancient ruins off Sicily!
If you’d rather have someone else doing the hard work, simply chart a course for the Floating City of Venice, where singing gondoliers will propel you down the canals.
And don’t forget those mountains. Skiing and boarding down the winter slopes is a proper treat – especially with all that fresh pasta fuelling you. Sestriere in the Alps and Val di Fassa in the Dolomites are epic in winter, and great for hiking and biking come summer.
Rome barely needs introducing. It’s home to some of the world’s most famous ruins (the Colosseum, the Pantheon and the Roman Forum, to name just a few), as well as the breathtaking Vatican, and the Sistine Chapel.
Elsewhere, dreamy Florence is the destination for Renaissance art – including Michelangelo's David – and Leonardo da Vinci’s genius inventions. Alternatively, head to Naples to see some of the most important sculptures and mosaics in history at the National Archaeological Museum.

If you’re looking to avoid the crowds, visit Italy in spring (April, May, June) or autumn (September and October) when the weather is still warm and the changing scenery is beautiful. It’s worth packing your raincoat, though, as the weather can be unpredictable.
July and August can be as fiery as Vesuvius – this is prime time for beach action and knocking back some zesty limoncello! While winter is chilly, especially in the northern gems of Venice, Milan and Pisa, Christmas in Italy is incredibly pretty. Just wrap up warm and munch through a pile of decorated biscotti.
