Holidays to Florence

Florence holidays serve up picture-perfect piazzas, world-class galleries and epic food. So grab a gelato and get to exploring this Tuscan treasure.

Masterpieces around every corner

Florence is the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, and it’s not shy about showing it off! What’s more, the city’s historic centre is easily walkable, so you can ogle the art and get your steps in!

Admire chapel frescoes, meander through piazzas spotting historic monuments, and discover contemporary art galleries down cobblestone streets. You’ll find the big hitters of the renaissance in Florence, from Botticelli to Michelangelo. Galleries and museums are brimming with their masterpieces, and you’ll find plenty of souvenirs featuring Michelangelo’s David (and his most famous body part).

Living la dolce vita

Italians invented la dolce vita, and a Florence holiday gives you the chance to really live it. Float down the Arno in a gondola, then soak up the majestic Renaissance fresco at Santa Maria del Carmine Church. After perusing the piazzas, sip a negroni at an outdoor café and watch the world go by.

As the sun dips, the Piazzale Michelangelo delivers a panorama that will make your Insta-followers instantly jealous! At night, the city lights up and the bars and restaurants that line the piazzas come to life. In the summer evenings, these piazzas turn into stages, hosting alfresco gigs and street performances.

Where gelato is an artform

Leave your diet plan at home – one scoop of Florence’s gelato each day never seems like enough. Pop by Vivoli for a heavenly hazelnut and pistachio, or let Gelateria dei Neri’s salted caramel work its magic on your taste buds.

With an abundance of authentic Italian gelato and original flavours to explore, you should count scoops not calories. After all, in Florence, every cone is a work of art.

Culture and history: Florence’s timeless treasures

Every corner of Florence reveals stories of the past, with cultural wonders vying for your attention like a toddler with a new trick. Wander through the Uffizi Galleries to gaze at Botticelli’s Birth of Venus and see Michelangelo’s David (almost) literally in the flesh in the Accademia Gallery. The Duomo’s spectacular cathedral dome, designed by Brunelleschi, reigns over the city skyline, and you can catch the best views of the stunning Ponte Vecchio bridge from the River Arno (while avoiding the crowds).

Food and drink: Sips, bites and diva delights

Florence isn’t just a feast for the eyes. Pasta masterpieces grace tables of cosy trattorias down via del Porcellana. For Tuscan flavours, hit up Mercato Centrale or Sant’Ambrogio markets where stalls burst with local goodies, like pecorino cheese. And the gelatarias will keep you cool as you strut about town. As evening falls, join locals for an aperitivo in Santa Croce or Sant’Ambrogio, where neighbourhood bars serve up cocktails, nibbles and Italiano charm.

Shopping: Made in Italy

Shoppers – you’re in for a real treat. Kick off your adventure at San Lorenzo Market, where luxury Italian leather just begs to sneak into your suitcase. Then, flit over to Ponte Vecchio bridge, where jewellery shops have stood since the 14th century. For artisan gifts, trot over to the cobblestones of Oltrarno. Finally, stroll down Via de’ Tornabuoni, where high-end boutiques will tempt you into some serious retail therapy. Go ahead and grab that extra suitcase – you’re going to need it!

When to go to Florence

Florence is a year-round stunner, but if you’re after cheap Florence holidays with plenty of Tuscan sun, visit in spring or autumn. Between April to June, you’ll get blooming gardens, alfresco dining and fewer tourists competing for that perfect Ponte Vecchio shot. September and October have warm days and harvest vibes, with local festivals and vino on tap. Summer’s a scorcher, with crowded streets and highs in the mid-30s, so pack light and embrace the afternoon siesta. Winter’s quieter and cheaper, with festive markets – just pack your brolly!
