Take off to the Costa Blanca for a fabulous holiday to Alicante. With gleaming white-sand beaches, warm waters, historic castles and a buzzing nightlife, it’s a classic Spanish beach break sun-baked to perfection!
Whatever sort of beach day you’re planning, you’ll find Alicante’s has a stretch of sand to suit. Playa del Postiguet, for instance, is perfect for topping up your tan between tapas and paddling.
For a more high-energy day by the bay, hit up Platja de Llevant, where you’ll find heaps of watersports on offer. We’re talking all the boards (surf, paddle and wake), and jet-skis for good measure.
Castles, you gotta love ‘em. And if you really do, Alicante is your, er, knight in shining armour. The main fortress here is Castillo de Santa Bárbara, which dates all the way back to the 9th century. Trek up to the top to potter about the castle and for the lovely, lovely sea views.
Other nearby castles include Castillo de Castalla, Castell de Polop, Castillo de Petrer, Fortaleza de Sax and Castillo de Moraira. Castles? Check, check and check!
Gazpacho, paella, jamon serrano, boquerones, patatas bravas… this cast of tasty characters are at their very best in Alicante.
Crowd your table with tapas at El Gosto del Gourmet, steps from the shore. Or kick the class up a notch at the award-winning Nou Manolín, where the menu includes super fresh seafood and plenty of elevated local fare.
Alicante’s old town (El Barrio) is well worth a visit. The town hall square, the domes of Calle Labradores and the high and mighty mountain backdrop are the headliners here.
But delve into the side streets and you’ll discover plenty of gems, like the Nativity Scene Museum (Museo de Belenes), the Whisper Cocktail Company, and the pretty cafes, colourful doors and living walls of Santa Cruz.

With rain hardly ever around and temperatures rarely far from the 20s, there’s never a bad time to pack your bags for Alicante. For maximum body bronzing, get here in the seemingly endless summer between June and September. You’ll find temperatures pushing 30C and the beaches at their brilliant best.
For cheap holidays to Alicante, look to the off-season between November and March. But don’t pack your scarf and gloves as temperatures are still in the high teens.
The perfect point for bargain breaks when it’s still warm? The shoulder seasons! Savvy travellers will want to fly out in May or October.
