Idylic beach with palms and sun loungers by the red sea

Holidays to Sharm El Sheikh

With beautiful beaches, relaxation-ready resorts and lavish luxury on tap, Sharm El Sheikh holidays have enough riches to make a pharaoh blush.

Built for beach holidays (literally)

Purpose-built to welcome beach-bound tourists all year round, Sharm El Sheikh has one goal: to deliver the best sun-kissed experience you’ve ever had this side of the Red Sea. And with a bucketload of resorts dotted about the coast, its aims to please are more than realised!

Sizzle on a sun-lounger at the bustling Naama Bay, throw your best shapes in the bars of Terrazzina, or escape to the warm and welcoming shallows of El Fanar – there are more stretches of sand out here than you can Sharm El Sheikh a stick at (sorry).

Descend to new depths... in a good way

Even with beaches this beautiful, the seas around Sharm El Sheikh are no sidekick. In fact, Sharm is a world-famous diving destination, renowned for its colourful corals and abundant marine life.

Swim up close to hammerheads and barracudas and, erm, bathtubs and a BMW at Ras Mohammed National Park. Intermediate and advanced divers may want to see the incredible corals beneath the Straits of Tiran too.

Just deserts

Well, not just deserts – dunes too! Take a day trip to Sinai to wander in the sandal prints of Saint Helena at St Catherine’s Monastery or hunt for the burning bush at Jabal Moussa.

For higher octane high jinks, book a safari through the sand dunes, where quad bikes and camels are your choice of steed. Then, all that’s left to do is stargaze in the Sharm desert after a traditional Bedouin dinner. Sand-sational!

Land, lounge and luxuriate

Sharm El Sheikh is a resort town in every sense. There are luxury hotels and apartments everywhere, all pointing expectantly in the direction of North Africa’s best beaches. Did someone say fly and flop?

Expect pools stretching to the horizon, service straight to your sun-lounger, skin-soothing spa treatments and mighty fine dining. Between the Four Seasons, Mövenpick, SENTIDO Reef Oasis and many more upmarket resorts, you should be able to find champagne holidays at prosecco prices.

Want to go from bed to beach without breaking a sweat? You’re in the right place! Sharm El Sheikh’s seaside resorts make it easy to roll out of bed and right onto the sand. Naama Bay is the biggest hitter. Its long stretch of sand, perfectly placed sunbrellas, and cold-drink-serving cafes make for an effortless beach day. Over at Shark’s Bay, you can jump on a jet-ski, strap on a scuba tank or slip into the sea away from the busier beaches.

For fun-time fams

Whether you’re a family that plays together or one that catches the rays together, Sharm El Sheikh’s got your back. The most active can slip and slide through flumes, rapids and rides at the Pickalbatros Aqua Park in Sharm El Sheikh. For siblings that prefer to spectate, there’s Naama Bay’s glass bottom boat tours or the Royal Seascope Submarine Cruise. Pottering parents are covered at the Old Market, aka the second home of have-a-go hagglers.

Take your best shots

When it comes to partying, Sharm’s had plenty of practice. Brits have been dancing the night away out here for decades – and it shows! For the world’s laziest pub crawl, head for Camel Bar & Rooftop in the heart of Naama Bay. Start on the promenade terrace, make your way to its sports and karaoke lounge and finish off with a sundowner up on the rooftop. When it’s time to cool off, head to the coldest place in North Africa, the Ice Bar (yes, really!).

When to go to Sharm El Sheikh

While we’re all after some summer sun, sometimes the heat in Egypt can become overwhelming. Reckon you can handle the hot hot heat? Knock yourself out! But if you want to avoid that altogether, maybe give the humid highs of July and August a miss. For more temperate weather, the sweet spot is the shoulder seasons of spring or autumn. April, May, September and October will still see you sunning yourself in near 30C heat. For a cheap holiday to Sharm El Sheikh, not to mention a bit of winter sun, book a break in December, when you can usually still expect 20-plus temps.
