Holidays to Dalaman

Turquoise seas, Turkish food, turtle-nesting beaches… Dalaman holidays are tur-tally amazing! Throw in mud baths, cliffside tombs, tip-top resorts and we’re sold!

Turquoise Coast

Dalaman is part of the Turquoise Coast, where you’ll find exceptionally clear waters, spectacular lush mountains, and a diverse choice of beaches. Expect to spend your Dalaman holidays happily exploring coves and caves, discovering secluded beaches, splashing around in the water and generally having a good time by the sea.

The Blue Lagoon in Olu Deniz is a particular highlight. Visit for a swim or a snorkel, or stay on the surface with a kayak or paddleboard.

Resort life

One of Dalaman's biggest appeals is all the ace resorts that sit along its sparkly coastline. Here, you’ll find resorts that are perfect for couples (choose adults-only), families (with plenty of entertainment and activities to please everyone) and groups of friends (think swim-up bars).

If you’re in the mood to fly and flop, pick an all-inclusive that has everything you need within easy reach, from all-you-can-eat buffets to Turkish spa treatments just a short walk from your cosy room.

Ancient Kaunos

Visiting the ruins of this 9th-century city is a must-do on any Dalaman holiday. Hop on a boat from Dalyan (side note: a great place to try a cleansing mud bath) and cross the river to the site.

Highlights here include an old theatre, a Roman bath and a church from the 6th century. And make sure you look upwards to see the impressive rock tombs carved into the cliffside.

Water lot of water

If you like to spend a lot of time splashing about in the water, the Dalaman is your kind of playground. There are plenty of opportunities to snorkel, dive and swim from most of its main beaches. Watersports are abundant, as are boat trips.

It doesn’t stop at the sea, either, as the Dalaman River is also a source of frothy fun! Raft the rapids through the lush valley and past waterfalls, catching your breath (and drying off!) at a lunch spot along the way.

Turtle-tastic beaches

Just outside Fethiye, Calis Beach is one of Dalaman’s best beaches. Picture a long strip of sand and, would you believe it, turquoise water! Got the little ones in tow? At Icmeler Beach you’ll find soft sand, calm waters and kid-friendly restaurants. For something a little special, head to İztuzu Beach, where you might spot loggerhead turtles (typically nesting between May and August). If you’re visiting the Blue Lagoon in Olu Deniz, don’t miss Belcekiz Beach to watch the parasailers coasting overhead.

How about them ruins

Dalaman is history buff heaven. Fact! Near Fethiye, Kayakoy is an abandoned village with hundreds of houses and churches to explore (you can do this yourself or with a guide). Its history is both fascinating and sad. Elsewhere, the ruins of the 4,000-year-old hilltop city Tlos lie about 40 minutes outside Fethiye. In the same neck of the woods, Letoon is an ancient temple site with tombs, columns and the remains of an amphitheatre where religious rituals were once performed.

Tasty Turkish tucker

Food nut? Chow champion? Taste bud adventurer? Dalaman holidays will not disappoint. For a proper culinary experience, keep it authentic with a huge Turkish feast – kebabs, menemen (eggs, tomatoes, peppers), lahmacun pizza, baklava and lokum (the best Turkish Delight you’ll probably ever have) are all on the menu. For a unique and tasty experience, head to Fethiye Fish Market, where you can pick whatever fishy thing you want and have it transformed into a meal at a nearby restaurant.

When to go to Dalaman

If you’re looking for hot days, balmy evenings and peak Turkish sun, sea and sand from your Dalaman holiday, visit in summer (June to September).

If you’re not travelling with kids, you can probably give July and August a miss. Instead, head to Dalaman on either side of those months to avoid the crowds, super high temperatures and pricey prices.

For cheap Dalaman holidays, consider visiting even earlier or later, towards the back end of spring or the start of autumn.
