Holidays to Marmaris

Banging beaches, a naughty-but-nice nightlife and sprawling bazaars packed with designer dupes… a cheap Marmaris holiday delivers plenty of fun in the Turkish sun.

Bar Street beckons

Sleep is for the weak on a Marmaris holiday! From karaoke to drag shows and foam parties to pole dancing, the nightlife here is everything.

Bar Street is the Jagerbomb-fuelled heart of the resort. Packed with football-themed bars, kitsch cabaret clubs and open-air discos, it’s the place to go for a full-on night out.

Blistering beach days

Before the party, hit the beach. With 6.4km (4 miles) of golden sand lapped by turquoise seas, a Marmaris holiday is ideal if you want to fly and flop.

Most beachfront hotels boast private sands lined with sun-loungers and parasols, and there’s no shortage of heart-racing thrills. From banana boats and parasailing to jet-skiing and bungee jumping, the adrenaline hits hard in Turkey (now officially known as Türkiye).

That’s ancient history

Need a break from fishbowl cocktails and foam parties? Get ready to learn: there’s plenty of history to discover in Marmaris.

You can wander the cobbled streets of Kaleiçi, the old town, and peek into Suleiman the Magnificent’s magnificent 16th-century castle. A day trip to Kaunos brings myths and legends to life (almost!). These remains of an ancient city include an amphitheatre, rock tombs and temples dating back to 900 BC.

Sea-s the day!

You’ll definitely want to get out on the water in Marmaris. From boozy pirate cruises to romantic sunset sails and turtle snorkelling tours, you’ll feel like you’re floating in a blue lagoon cocktail (it’s not called the Turquoise Coast for nothing, you know!).

For a date with a difference, hop on a day cruise to Cleopatra Island – the soft white shores where, according to local legend, Mark Antony famously wooed the iconic queen.

Urban beaches

Here for the sun? Look no further than Marmaris Urban Beach! A palm-fringed sandy stretch, just moments from many hotels, here you can fall out of bed and straight on to a sun-lounger. If you want a quieter vibe and have kids with you, head out of town to kick back on Icmeler Beach, or escape the crowds at Turunc Beach. Tucked in a peaceful bay, Marmaris’s little secret serves up powdery sands, crystalline waters and a smattering of beach bars.

Party like it’s 1999

Marmaris’s nightlife is as legendary as you’d imagine. Bar Street sits at the centre of the chaos. Start with cocktails at Backstreet Bar, perfect for people-watching. If you want more than dancing on bars and cheap shots, head to Talk of The Town for theatre shows and drag queens. For proper beach vibes, Joy Club offers laidback lounging and dancing in the sand. And then there’s Club Areena, a massive open-air club playing techno and house ‘til dawn.

Sweets and spices

From look-alike Louis Vuittons to faux Fendis, Marmaris is paradise for boujee-on-a-budget shopaholics. If you want to pick up more than a Marc Jacobs knock off (or as well as), head to the Grand Bazaar in the Tepe district, a vast undercover market with a thousand stalls. Here you’ll find everything from authentic Turkish delight and handmade Persian rugs to ‘replika’ items from all your favourite designer names. Our tip? Don’t overpack!

When to go to Marmaris

If you want to sizzle on both the beach and the dance floor, book your Marmaris holiday in July and August, when the mercury rockets past 30C and the party never stops. Prefer to avoid the school leaver crowds? Ditch peak season and visit in May, June or September, when there’s plenty of sunshine, sun-loungers and disco nights, and the temperature is still a delicious 27C. For cheap Marmaris holidays, travel out of season in April and October. At this time of year, you can usually still expect sunshine and blue skies – but be prepared for the odd shower.
