Holidays to Icmeler

With sun-drenched beaches, a low-key nightlife and a cute old town, Icmeler holidays provide a more chilled out Turkish break than its livelier counterparts.

Blissful beaches

Backed by lush pine forests and rolling hills, Icmeler is a rare beach resort that’s fragranced more with pinecones than Ambre Solaire. The laidback cousin to high-spirited Marmaris, Icmeler is a delightful spot to fly-and-flop for a week or two. It still has the full armoury of watersports – you know, jet-skis, banana boats, parasailing – as well as plenty of sun-loungers for relaxing around its pretty sand and shingle bay.

A diver’s delight

Fancy coming eye to eye with an octopus? Or nose to nose with a needlefish? Now’s your chance. Like plunging into a giant aquarium, scuba diving is a true highlight of an Icmeler holiday. Good visibility, a healthy coral reef and some epic sea life (turtles love it here!), diving is a dream on the Turkish Riviera. You can even get your PADI qualification at a local dive school.

Nautical but nice

The best way to explore the Turkish Riviera is on a millionaire’s sleek white yacht. The second best way is on a boat trip from Icmeler marina. Catamarans, traditional Turkish gulet sailing boats, swish speed boats… you name it, there’s a sea-faring vessel here for every mood. Whether it’s a raucous booze cruise to Marmaris or a relaxing day trip to the Greek island of Rhodes, it’s easy to take to the seas on your Icmeler holiday. Aye aye captain!

A bit of local life

If you can drag yourself away from your sun-lounger, it’s well worth exploring Icmeler. Follow its tree-lined canal to the welcoming bars and restaurants located around its squares. It’s the perfect place to load up on boxes of homemade Turkish delight and handmade baskets. Don’t miss the weekly street market (every Wednesday) where you can flex those haggling muscles on everything from rugs to jewellery.

Going for gold(en sands)

Smack bang in the heart of the resort, Icmeler Beach is the full package, with golden sands, beachfront bars and all manner of watersports – parasailing or rafting anyone? A little insider tip just for you: some of the bars and restaurants here offer free sun-loungers in prime spots. Alternatively, pack a picnic and hop in a water taxi to Turunc Beach. Surrounded by pine-clad hills, this smooth pebble beach has crystal-clear waters that make it perfect for snorkeling.

Water slides and camel rides

With outstanding beaches, shallow waters and plenty of water parks, this corner of the Turkish Riviera is a surefire hit with families. For the best water slides, chart a course for Aqua Dream Water Park or Atlantis Water Park in nearby Marmaris. Later, embark on a dreamy family camel ride along the beach at sunset, or level up the thrills on a Jeep safari tour to visit hidden beaches and more.

Nightlife: Nice not naughty

When it comes to partying the night away, Icmeler’s bars and clubs are no match for those of its raucous neighbour, Marmaris. But that’s not to say you’ll be tucked up in bed by 10pm on your Icmeler holiday – the resort has its fair share of beach bars and clubs. The Canary Bar by the canal serves cocktails and cake and has a cool bird-themed vibe. If the urge to dance takes over, head to Scotia Bar for party tunes, or hit up Club Ace for some strong house beats.

When to go to Icmeler

More popular than a doner kebab at closing time, July and August are the busiest months for an Icmeler holiday. Families flock to the beaches as the mercury soars past 30C and the laidback summer vibes are in full swing.

For a cheap Icmeler holiday, skip the peak season crowds and visit in May or October. You’ll enjoy great festivals, plenty of sunshine and easy access to sun-loungers. With temperatures hovering around a delicious 25C, it’s the perfect time to soak up some early/late season sun.
