Holidays to Los Angeles

Los Angeles holidays promise sun-soaked beach days, Hollywood studio tours, thrilling nightlife and unrivalled celebrity sightseeing. After all, this is one of the most famous cities in the world. City of Angels? More like City of Fun!

Lights, camera, action!

Between Warner Bros, Sony, Disneyland and Universal, LA has plenty of opportunities to get a glimpse into the world of the silver screen.

Join Universal’s World-Famous Studio Tour to literally go behind the scenes of major films and TV shows. Travel to a galaxy far, far away with Chewie at the Galaxy’s Edge or give Aurora a knock at Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland.

Be Pacific

The LA coast ranges from boho Venice to swanky Manhattan Beach. It’s all about taking it easy, so ride some waves, walk from pier to pier and watch the sun set over the Pacific.

A must-visit, Venice Beach is packed with things to see and do. Pop by Muscle Beach gym to see bodybuilders get their pump on (yes, really – it’s an LA institution!), take your kids to the skatepark and potter along its boardwalk.

All that glitters

From its iconic white-letter sign to the star-studded Walk of Fame, Hollywood is LA’s most exciting destination.

Head to Hollywood Boulevard to take in the sights of Tinseltown. Find your fave actor’s star, visit the Dolby Theatre (home of the Oscars) and discover your identical hand twin at TCL Chinese Theatre’s celeb handprint collection.

Sports capital of the world

Eat, sleep and breathe sports? It’s hard to beat a Los Angeles holiday – the city is la la for ballgames.

Think basketball, think LA Lakers. Think baseball, think LA Dodgers. Think ice hockey, think LA Kings. Think NFL, think LA Rams. Think football (soccer?), think LA Galaxy. Sports. Lots of it. You’re welcome.

Park life

Need a big gulp of green air? Take to Griffiths Park. You can go hiking or biking above the city, wander around Los Angeles Zoo or catch a show at the Greek Theatre.

For a different type of stargazing, visit Griffith Observatory. Explore the universe in the planetarium and then peek through a telescope to see if you can spot any signs of extraterrestrial life zipping by.

Culture and history: Arty facts

Los Angeles is chock-a-block with cultural experiences, from cool architecture like Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hollyhock House to the colossal Los Angeles County Museum of Art (it has over 15,000 objects in its collection!). Meanwhile, the iconic Getty Center, all wavy walls and Italian stone, is home to multiple masterpieces and more than 86 acres of landscaped outdoor spaces. To dip your toes in the past, travel way back to the dinosaur days at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, or learn all about the Wild West at the Autry Museum of the American West.

Nightlife: Comedy and cocktails

Keen to hit the bars and clubs of LA? Head downtown or into Hollywood. Highlights include the penthouse Elevate Lounge for skyscraper parties, The Standard’s rooftop for scenic sipping and The Mayan for a hip-wobbling evening of salsa and meringue. If you like your nightlife with a side of celeb spotting, try the iconic Viper Room, known for its rocky vibe, or the opulent Warwick. To split your sides good and proper, roll on down to spots like The Comedy Store, Hollywood Improv and the Laugh Factory. Who knows, you might even spot the next big comedy star!

Shopping: Extra suitcase required

In a city with serious spending power, LA’s shopping scene is dangerously good. For a “who cares, I’m on holiday” kind of a splurge, head to Beverly Hills’ Rodeo Drive, where you can tap your way from one swanky store to the next. If you don’t have an astronomical budget for your shopping spree, Venice beckons. Take a stroll along Abbot Kinney Boulevard for indie stores of all varieties, then head to Koreatown’s malls to get your skincare needs more than met.

When to go to Los Angeles

Los Angeles’ peak season spans July and August, when the beaches are packed and life is all about being outdoors. It’s also busy and hotels are pricey, but if you love to be where the action is, this is the time to visit. If you want to avoid heavy crowds, or take a few hikes during your trip, spring and autumn are good bets. It’s still warm but not too hot or smoggy. The shoulder seasons are when you’ll find cheap Los Angeles holidays, too.

Forget calling January and February off-season because in LA it’s awards season! From the Grammys to the Golden Globes and Oscars, this time of year is all about the red carpet and VIP afterparties.
