Overlooking the sea in Mykonos with traditional windmills in the background

Holidays to Mykonos

Call it the St Tropez of Greece or the Ibiza of the Aegean, Mykonos holidays are all about idyllic beach days and hard partying nights.

Balmy (and barmy) beach scene

Ever since the 50s and 60s, when the glamorous likes of Grace Kelly, Jackie O and Brigitte Bardot flocked to the island, Mykonos has been a super popular (and rather bougie) beach holiday destination. So don your favourite Guccis and hit up the chic beach clubs of Paranga and Psarou. Or lunch on lobster linguine in an Ornos taverna before dancing barefoot in the sand at Paradise Beach’s mega clubs. Mykonos has a beach for your every whim.

Nightlife: A hedonist's dream

Known for its banging nightlife, Mykonos is Greece’s full-on party paradise, packed with world-famous beach clubs, hip bars and non-stop dancing til sunrise. If you’re serious about daytime partying, hit up SantAnna on Paranga Beach. One of Europe’s best beach clubs, it has a huge pool with private islands, stacks of bars, cabanas and even a heliport.

Postcard perfect sights

With its sugar-cube houses, bougainvillaea-draped lanes and tiny chapels, Mykonos Town epitomises picture postcard Greece. There are hundreds of churches on the island, but the whitewashed Paraportiani Church overlooking the sea is the most famous and well worth a selfie. Little Venice is another Mykonos must-see. A tumble of picturesque houses nudging the sea, it's the most popular spot on the island to watch the sunset with a tipple or two.

Waving the Pride flag

One of Europe’s first LGBTQ+ friendly holiday destinations, Mykonos proudly waves the Pride flag and is packed with gay-friendly beaches, bars and nightclubs. Super Paradise Beach is the island's LGBTQ+ epicentre and brings the biggest crowds to the island with its lively beach bars and hedonistic day parties. Indulge in a cocktail or two at JackieO’, one of Mykonos’ iconic gay bars, where you can enjoy drag shows, DJ sets and a fabulous sunset view.

Top beaches: Beach time, baby

With soft sands and topaz seas, Mykonos boasts some of Greece’s prettiest beaches. And when it’s time to party, simply head to the shore. Paradise Beach is the OG of Mykonos party beaches. Expect banging beach bars where top DJs spin tunes and dancing in swimwear is the norm. Meanwhile, Super Paradise Beach is renowned for its even wilder parties! For a more relaxed vibe, head to Ornos Beach. With quieter beach clubs and soft sands, it's good for families and those seeking a less hedonistic Mykonos holiday.

Nightlife: Ouzo you want to party?

Mykonos nightlife is legendary. As the sun sets, the island transforms into a dazzling playground, with epic beach bars like Scorpios and Nammos setting the tone with a steady stream of cocktails and banging tunes. By midnight, the action shifts to iconic clubs like the clifftop Cavo Paradiso, where international DJs spin dance hits until dawn. Little Venice has a more upmarket vibe with a series of stylish sunset bars overlooking the water. Bagging the best spot in Mykonos, the super-swish 180⁰ Sunset Bar is the place to see and be seen.

Best of the rest: Windmills

It’s one of Greece's most glamorous islands, so most flock to Mykonos for the party. But a Mykonos holiday can offer more than just cocktails and clubbing. Little Venice is famous for its colourful Venetian houses, built in the 18th century. And hop on a boat from Mykonos Town to visit the sacred island of Delos, the mythical birthplace of Apollo. Photos or it didn't happen! Of course, no visit to the island is complete without seeing the famous Mykonos windmills. Just south of Mykonos Town, you’ll discover a super-pretty sunset watching spot with the windmills.

When to go to Mykonos

If you’re after a #HotGirl/GuySummer, you’ve come to the right place. Mykonos might be busier than a bumblebee in spring, but the island is always at its most fun in July and August. Temperatures can reach a sizzling 35C, and it's nigh on impossible to bag a sunbed, but this is when Mykonos shines brightest.

For a cheap Mykonos holiday, visit in April or October. It’s usually still quite sunny and the beaches are quiet, but there’s almost zero chance of dancing ‘til dawn. September is the best month to visit Mykonos if you want a combination of good weather, quieter beaches and lively nightlife.
