Holidays to Rhodes

With top-notch sandy beaches, lush landscapes, delicious Greek cuisine and tons of ancient history, Rhodes holidays have all the essentials for an unforgettable trip.

Water way to have fun

Enjoying sun, sea and sand on a picturesque Greek island without a care in the world – could Rhodes be any more perfect? For a classic fly and flop, head to the east of the island, which is where the best beaches can be found (check out Agathi and Tsambika).

There’s a whole wet and wonderful world to be explored beyond the sandy shores, too, so book a boat ride from Rhodes Town to get up close to coves and caves. A day trip to the tiny, colourful island of Symi is also recommended.

More than just sandy shores

Rhodes famously has a drop-dead gorgeous coastline but the island’s interior is equally stunning.

See for yourself by popping into the world’s first landscaped park at Rodini and follow in the steps of the Romans who built it. Then head even further inland to the Valley of the Butterflies. Exactly what it says on the tin, it’s a massive nature park where you’ll be enchanted by colourful swarms of the insects.

Time travel

Rhodes has been catering to swim-up bar-loving, wifi-demanding tourists for years, but you’d be missing out if you didn’t make time for some of its authentic towns and villages.

Explore the island’s medieval Old Town, pay a visit to the hilltop taverns of Monolithos (and its lofty castle, too) and wander about Laerma, which is home to the ancient Moni Thari Monastery.

From Poseidon to your plate

Greece has given the world some absolute classics – and we don’t mean books. We’re talking food: tzatziki, kalamarakia, souvlaki, dolmades and spanakopita, just to name a few. For a taste of the best, pay a visit to Mama Sofia in Rhodes Old Town, where you can expect to loosen your belt a few notches.

For seafood, book a table at Stegna Kozas. It’s a little away from the tourist trail, but after your first bite, you’ll forget how you got there.

A cove and a bay for everyday

With over 210km (130 miles) of coastline, you best believe Rhodes has a beach with your name on it. For an easy win, make it Elli Beach. Just outside Rhodes Town, it’s all sunbeds, parasols and vibrant blue waters.

For a little more Aegean ambience, head to Agathi and find your spot on the golden sheltered sand. Here to hit the waves? Grab a board and head for the whipping winds of Theologos Beach.

Nightlife: Go big or go Home(r)!

There’s no party in Rhodes without the F word – Faliraki. Its dual strips serve up beverages in buckets, cosy cocktail lounges and pounding music that will have you dancing until the early hours.

Head to Bondi Bar to sample its signature cocktails before unleashing your 24-hour party person on the dancefloor at Yolo. For a more laidback vibe, visit Rhodes Town for a boogie at the Blue Lagoon or put the mixologists to work at The Last Butler.

Wander ancient Greece in your flip-flops

Forget the bucket list. You’re going to need an industrial-sized vat to tick off every must-see historical attraction in Rhodes. Get started in the UNESCO-listed medieval Old Town with a tour of the Palace of the Grand Master and a stroll down the Street of the Knights.

Kick it up a notch at the Lindos Acropolis, where you’ll discover ancient ruins and pillars that look like they’ve been ripped from the pages of a history book. Then, take a leap through time with a visit to the 15th-century Castle of Kritinia.

When to go to Rhodes

Those 300 or so days of sunshine come in handy for beach-loving Brits but it’s June and September that really enjoy the hottest weather. You can expect temperatures close to 30C.

Looking for a cheap holiday to Rhodes? Fly in during the winter. It’s rarely cold here, with highs of around 17C in the chillier months – although you may spot a few more rain clouds than you’d like.

The sweet spots when it comes to weather and price are the shoulder seasons. Book your trip in April, May, September or October and you’ll get a bargain break with plenty of tan-topping opportunities.
