Holidays to Corfu

Flop on gorgeous beaches, explore ancient ruins, party in Kavos and eat to your heart’s content - Corfu holidays are a Mediterranean dream.

Balmy beach time

Putting the corrrrr in Corfu, the Ionian island's beautiful, bountiful beaches are as varied as they are pretty. Think aquamarine waters, golden sands, pebbled gems, cypress trees. This is Greek paradise.

In the north, check out Agios Georgios. In the east, Dassia Bay. Are you holidaying in the south? Say hello to Halikounas. And if you’re on the west side, make it Kontogialos. That concludes your brief tour of some of the best beaches in Corfu.

Tasty tavernas

From pastitsada (meaty pasta) and Greek sofrito (slowly cooked beef) to sumptuous bourdeto (fish cooked in a tomato sauce), Corfu will dazzle your tastebuds.

In Kassiopi and Dassia, you’ll find beachfront tavernas serving up fresh dishes that’ll make you wish you had a second stomach. Got a sweet tooth? Make your first stop Papagiorgis - a famous patisserie and gelateria in Corfu Town. Here you can enjoy homemade ice cream and fancy cakes. Consider sampling the local kumquat liqueur too. It’s like a delicious orange diesel.

Swim in the Channel of Love

For loved up couples (well, anyone really, but you’ll see where we’re coming from), head to Sidari on the west coast. It’s home to the Canal d’Amour (the Channel of Love), a striking bay sheltered by custard-coloured rocks.

It’s perfect for lazy afternoons, whether you’re after a cheeky 20 winks on the sand or a relaxed swim in the green-blue waters. Single? Ancient Greek legend says if you swim in this channel, you’ll find true love. Let us know if it works!

Kavos chaos (in a good way)

With endless pool parties, booze cruises and the coolest club nights featuring international DJs, Kavos is all about raving it up. A neon-laced mecca for cheap Corfu holidays, it’s also home to gorgeous sandy beaches, cheap-as-chips hotels and a ready-made party strip lined with bars and nightclubs. It’s essentially Disneyland for the night owls.

Things to explore

Tropic like it’s hot

From party resorts to secret coves, Corfu’s beach scene offers something for everyone. For more sandy beaches than you can spike a parasol in, head to the west coast. For balmy beach days with a dreamy backdrop, follow the trail of influencers to Paleokastritsa.

With the family? Hit Glyfada’s crystal waters and come nose-to-fin with Nemo. And if it’s banana boats and beach bars you’re after, then Kavos beach is the stuff young dreams are made of. Just don’t forget the sunscreen.

Carry on in Corfu Town

If you like your Corfu holidays like you like your Greek yoghurt – rich, cultured and, er, drizzled in honey – head to Corfu Town. Venetian and Byzantine architecture, the Museum of Palaiopolis-Mon Repos, the Museum of Asian Art, the palace where Prince Philip was born - this UNESCO-listed capital is ripe in Greek history.

Beyond Corfu Town, there’s Paleokastritsa Monastery in, you guessed it, Paleokastritsa, and the ghost village of Old Perithia, which dates back to the 14th century! Boo!

Wet ‘n wild family fun

Kamikaze-style water slides, pirate ship cruises and mini-discos galore, a Corfu holiday reads like a kid’s holiday wish list. For golden sand beaches and tepid shallow seas, look to the family-friendly resorts of Benitses and Messonghi on the southeast coast.

Buzzy Ipsos is a good choice if you have teens – and it’s also within easy reach of Aqualand Corfu, said to be one of the biggest waterparks in the world.

When to go to Corfu

If you’re dreaming of sizzling sunshine, book a holiday between June and September when the island is feeling hot, hot, hot. But bear in mind this is also the busiest time on the beaches and the hotels can be pricey.

For cheap Corfu holidays, visit in spring when there’s plenty of sunshine and blue skies.

Fancy some late summer sun? Come in autumn, when the mercury still tips a balmy 26C but you get more bang for your buck. December and January is zzzzz time on the islands, when a cooler Corfu goes into hibernation.
