Beach coastline at bay of Puerto Pollensa, Spain

Holidays to Puerto Pollensa

Puerto Pollensa has everything you need for a relaxing but super fun jaunt to Majorca – think sun-soaked beaches, shady pine forests and jaw-dropping views.

It’s all about the beach vibes

With glorious golden sands, warm turquoise seas and a relaxed Mediterranean vibe, Puerto Pollensa is a haven for beach lovers. Dotted with sun-loungers and coconut-frond parasols, this resort town brings Bali vibes to the Balearics. Stretching for 1.5km, Puerto Pollensa Beach is the main drag and is perfect for flip-flopping between the sea and the beach bars.

Pine-lined promenade

Separating the beach and town, Puerto Pollensa’s pine tree-lined promenade is wide, long and buzzing with life. After a day on the beach, join the locals for a sunset stroll along the Pine Walk. You’ll be following in the footsteps of famous author Agatha Christie, who meandered along here as she was dreaming up her book Problem at Pollensa Bay.

Say ‘cor!’ in Cap de Formentor

Even if it’s just for Instagram clout, a visit to the Formentor Peninsula completes your Puerto Pollensa holiday. Drive, take a boat or hike (if you’re feeling brave) to Cap de Formentor and take in the most jaw-dropping views in Majorca. Its plunging cliffs and panoramic views give you a real standing-on-the-edge-of-the-world feel.

Glimpse authentic Majorca in the Old Town

If you can drag yourself away from the beach, Pollensa Old Town is just a short drive from the port. The yin to Puerto Pollensa’s yang, its narrow cobbled streets are lined with hole-in-the-wall bars – complete with old men playing backgammon – and artisan shops. Climb the 365 Calvari Steps for sensational views of the Tramuntana Mountains.

Sun-drenched shopping

Love a bargain? Roll up for market day – a highlight of any Puerto Pollensa holiday. Every Wednesday and Sunday, the town square welcomes stalls flogging everything from local cheese and wines to handmade leather bags, siurells (Majorcan figurines) and lacy tablecloths.

Fantastic Formentor and snorkelling hotspots

A few minutes’ drive from Puerto Pollensa is Cala San Vincente. Popular with families, its golden sands, rocky shores and azure waters make it a fab snorkelling spot. For a real treat, seek out Formentor Beach. Banked by shady pine forests and with postcard-worthy views, it’s easily one of the best beaches in Majorca.

If you’re in the mood for jet skis followed by Jagerbombs, head to the livelier beaches in the neighbouring resort of Alcudia, where beach bars and banana boats rule.

Sun, sea and sandcastles

Shallow waters, classic sandcastle beaches and an ice cream parlour on every corner, Puerto Pollensa has become the gold standard for happy families. Splash in the shallows, float on an (inflatable) flamingo or enjoy a cruise on a glass-bottom boat.

If you have adrenaline-hungry kids or teens, spend a day racing down the water slides at Hidropark in the neighbouring resort of Alcudia.

Ain’t no mountain high enough – or is there?

Topped up your tan and finished your novel? Swap flip-flops for hiking boots and hit the longest walking path in the Balearics. Snaking along Majorca’s northwest coast, from Cap de Formentor to Andratx Beach, the Ruta de Pedra en Sec is a fantastic route through the oh-so-scenic Tramuntana Mountains.

Expect to share the shady monasteries and magnificent views with mountain goats and lycra-clad cyclists.

When to go to Puerto Pollensa

Squeezing every drop of sunshine out of the long summer, Puerto Pollensa truly benefits from its balmy Balearic climate. With temperatures reaching upwards of 30C, its coastal breezes keep conditions comfortable.

The best time to visit is between May and September, when the sun is working full time, and everything is open. July and August are the busiest months, when the school holidays turn every beach into a sandcastle city.

For a cheap Puerto Pollensa holiday, visit in April or October. Temperatures hover between 20C and 23C, with sunshine and blue skies, but be prepared for the odd cloudy day.
