Overlooking the serene Playa El Ancla with crystal-clear water and volcanic landscapes in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote

Holidays to Costa Teguise

Holidays to Costa Teguise are all about warm weather and golden sands. Some of Lanzarote’s most jaw-dropping attractions are on your doorstep too – if you can be dragged away from your sun-lounger, that is!

Fly in, flop out

If your dream holiday itinerary consists of lounging under sunny skies with a great book and a cocktail in hand, Costa Teguise is a brilliant pick. With hotels to suit every budget and warm weather all year round, the Canary Island ticks all the boxes for fun in the sun.

From the sheltered sands of Playa Bastian to the comfy sun-loungers and wild waves of Playa Cucharas, there are plenty of beaches for sizzling, snoozing and splashing.

Go all in on the great outdoors

The playas are not the only places where you can soak up the sun on a Costa Teguise holiday. If you’re feeling a little more active, embrace the dramatic scenery of Lanzarote’s great outdoors. Start by working up a sweat on Montaña de Tinaguache, where you’ll find several hiking trails of different difficulties – including one that takes you all the way to the top.

For a good dose of geology – the kind that the Canaries are known for – head over to its best example: Timanfaya National Park. Its volcanic craters, Martian-esque mounds and scorched black and orange earth look like something out of a space movie. Too tired to trek? Swap your two legs for four on a camel ride across the Echadero de Camellos.

One town, every kind of holiday

Whatever sort of holiday you’re dreaming of, you can make it a reality in Costa Teguise.

For the romantics, there are tandem quad rides, catamaran cruises and luxury spas. Got the kids in tow? Head to the resort’s gorgeous beaches or dial up the adrenaline at AQUAPARK, where you’ll find slippy slides and speedy rapids.

It’s a winter sun winner too, with temperatures hovering around the late teens and early 20s between November and February.

Marvel at Manrique’s mark

If you want to see some very cool art, check out native islander César Manrique’s work – the late artist has literally left his charming, colourful and unique mark all over the island.

Take a trip up the coast to the Jameos del Agua to see what all the fuss is about. Expect volcanic tunnels, palm trees and underground lakes all tied together by César’s artistic works. Or stop by his former home in Taniche to cast your eye over his collection and work those art critic muscles.

A playa for every day-a

Costa Teguise holidays pack five beautiful beaches into 5km (3 miles) of coastline, so you’re never too far from a snooze on the sand. Playa Cucharas is all-in-one awesomeness. Slap-bang in the middle of the costa, here you’ll find sun-loungers for relaxing, warm shallows for wading and crashing waves for watersports. It’s perfect for a family beach day, a beer by the bay or a swim or surf in the wild Atlantic. For a more secluded spot, try the local favourite, Playa El Ancla. Its sheltered bay keeps the wildest winds and waves away.

Something to do for the whole crew

Playa Cucharas has more than enough to keep the kids occupied, but if you need to deliver an action-packed day away from the coast, head for AQUAPARK. With paintballing, aqua-racing and kamikaze slides, boredom is not an option. Away from the water – well, sort of – try Lanzarote Aquarium. Its 33 “mini-aquariums” are full to the brim with anemones, puffer fish, fire dragons and several species of shark! For an altogether dryer family day out, pop into César Manrique’s Pueblo Marinero for markets, live music and the occasional fiesta.

Sophistication after sundown

Costa Teguise promises a nightlife that’ll definitely result in fewer hangovers than a night out in its noisier neighbours – think casual beers, late eats and cocktails by the coast. Head to Bar Chispas if you like your drinks named after classic sweets, from Jammie Dodgers to Parma Violets. For no-frills nibbles, ocean views and a pint or two, try the Number One Bar. Or work your way through the long list of spirits at La Novelera if you fancy something stronger. When it’s time for a booze-powered boogie, get down to Abbey Road bar for live music.

When to go to Costa Teguise

The best time to head to Costa Teguise for a classic summer getaway is between June and September. Expect temperatures in the mid- to high-20s and the clearest of blue skies as standard.

Just like its fellow Canary Island hotspots, winter sun is up for grabs out here too. Visit between December and March for some much-needed vitamin D and a mid-winter mood boost.

For beach-worthy weather and budget-friendly flights, take a look at holidays to Costa Teguise in the shoulder seasons. May and October promise mid-20s temperatures with less competition for sun-loungers and even more bang for your buck.
