Holidays to Playa Blanca

Feeling like white sands, shimmering waters, al fresco dining and a hint of glamour? It’s got to be a Playa Blanca holiday! Plonk on these sun-kissed shores of Lanzarote for a week or two and you’ll understand what we mean by pure beach break bliss!

Take a walk on the wet side

When you’re done soaking up the sun on Playa Blanca’s beautiful main beach, dust off the sand and make a beeline for the resort’s welcoming waters. From jet-skiing and water-skiing to wakeboarding, there are plenty of watersports here to keep your heart racing.

If that’s not quite epic enough, make like a mermaid and descend beneath the waves to Europe’s only underwater museum, the Museo Atlantico. Located some 12-14m (39-46ft) beneath the surface, it’s home to around 300 life-size sculptures.

Easy like a Lanzarote getaway

Quieter than Lanzarote’s bigger resort towns, a Playa Blanca holiday is perfect for those in need of R&R far, far away from the hustle and bustle of home – with heaps of sunshine and good food for company.

When you’re not working on your tan on the white sands, enjoy long, seafood lunches in the harbour hotspot that is Marina Rubicon or sit back and relax on a scenic boat ride over the island’s turquoise waters. Alternatively, simply chill on a sun-lounger by your pool and forget about the world (although, of course, doom scrolling to infinity is also allowed – holiday rules, after all).

Do it like a day tripper

Lanzarote is a fascinating Canary Island, and it’s worth exploring on day trips from Playa Blanca. Start with a tootle along the coast to Arrecife for artsy markets, seafront fortifications and the island’s best shopping.

Next, venture inland to Timanfaya National Park for Mars-like landscapes, camel rides and the majestic Mountains of Fire. Finally, head for Jameos del Agua. Created by local legend César Manrique, it’s part art gallery, part cave system and 100% beautiful.

Find your place on the playas

The Blue Flag beach that gives Playa Blanca its name is all white sands and sheltered shallows perfect for paddlers of all ages. It’ll be your sunbathing go-to while you’re here, but it’s not the only sandy spot. Plod along the promenade and you’ll reach Playa Dorada – the place to snooze in the shade of an umbrella, hydrate at a beach bar and dive into the Atlantic waves. Also nearby are the insanely beautiful Papagayo beaches. Between the sandy expanse of Playa Mujeres and the quiet coasts of Caleton del Cobre and Caleton de San Marcial, you’ll find your perfect spot to read, sleep, swim and repeat.

There’s always time for tapas

Small plates of flavoursome, shareable goodness served hot or cold, there’s every kind of tapas for every kind of taste bud on a Playa Blanca holiday. Love your carbs? Order papas arrugadas (wrinkled potatoes). Like the taste of the sea? Try fried squid. In the mood for a meat feast? Iberiam ham, meatballs and chorizo, it is! Try the big hitters with marina views at Izaro Taberna or La Casa Roja. Or, work your way through the lengthy tapas menu at Restaurante Puerto Blanco. And when it comes to choosing a tipple, give the Canary Island staple Ron Miel a go. It’s made of honey and rum – what’s not to like?

Get giddy in the great outdoors

If you’re the type that packs your sliders and your walking boots, Playa Blanca holidays have plenty to offer. Get started with a coastal hike to the lighthouses of Punta Pechiguera. The views back across the Canarian coast make the two-hour round trip more than worth it. There’s more wide open space to be gawped at in Los Ajaches too – think volcanic views, vast flats and perching seabirds on coastal cliffs. For more great views but with much less effort, book a buggy tour of the island. It’s a fun way to check out Lanzarote’s dramatic black-sand beaches, grumbling volcanoes and traditional towns.

When to go to Playa Blanca

When the beaches are this beautiful, you’re gonna want to time your fly-and-flop holiday to Playa Blanca between July and September. At this time of year, you can expect glistening sands and temperatures close to 30C – but higher prices and bigger crowds to match.

If you’re not restricted to the peak summer months, plan your trip for late May, June or October. You might pay less at this time of year, but you should still get beach-worthy temps well into the 20Cs – without needing to scramble for sunbeds.

April and November are good options for a much cheaper holiday to Playa Blanca too. Expect temperatures in the mid-20s, lots of sunshine and a more authentic side to the resort.
