Sunny day at Playa de las Americas beach in Tenerife, Spain

Holidays to Playa de las Americas

Looking for top beaches, lively bars and plenty of opportunities to partay? Playa de las Americas holidays deliver on every front.

The Land of the Free (shots)

Purpose-built for partying, a cheap Playa de las Americas holiday is all about the good times. With palm-lined sandy beaches, bars booming with happy hours and free shots, and wild-and-wacky club nights on every day of the week, it’s easy to see why Playa de las Americas is the go-to Tenerife destination for party people.

Nights to remember

Proudly Tenerife’s biggest and liveliest beach resort, Playa de las Americas is all about the party. Sidenote: if you want a quiet, relaxing holiday, move on! Aside from the famous Veronicas Strip, this destination has some of the best beach clubs on the island, particularly the swanky Papagayo Beach Club.

Winter fun in the sun

Ask Santa for sunscreen and sunglasses this year, and you’ll put them to good use in Tenerife! Famous for its year-round balmy temperatures, Playa de las Americas holidays are the perfect opportunity to top up your tan in winter. Located on the south of the island, this resort enjoys more days of sunshine than almost anywhere else on Tenerife.

Time to get wet ‘n’ wild

Banana boats, jet-skis, parasailing… you name it, you can do it on your Playa de las Americas holiday. But there’s as much to do off the beach as there is on it. Said by many to be the best water park in the world, Siam Park is one of the absolute must-dos in Tenerife. And to really splash out (pun intended!), book one of the fancy cabanas to enjoy the Thailand-inspired watery wonderland.

Top beaches: Putting the Playa into Las Americas

With golden sands shipped in from the Sahara, Playa de las Americas takes its job of Beach very seriously. Playa del Camison’s crescent-shaped sands are super popular with families and couples, but if you’re looking for a beach just steps from all the nightlife, Playa de Troya is 100% for you. Divided into Troya I and Troya II (both lined with bars), this is the liveliest beach in Tenerife. Elsewhere, Playa Honda is one heck of a surf beach and big with the locals. Head here to hit the waves with other adventurous types.

Nightlife: Classic clubbing to karaoke

Playa de las Americas knows it’s the party capital of Tenerife. At the centre of the action is Veronicas Strip, heaving with rowdy bars and nightclubs. Tramps Tenerife reckons it’s ‘The King of Clubs’, and its line-up of international DJs banging out classic house, techno and R&B goes a long way to prove it. If you want to practise your Bohemian Rhapsody, head to Princess Di’s Bar or The Wild Geese – both establishments host live music and nightly karaoke.

Shopping: Get more bang for your buck

A Playa de las Americas holiday is (almost) as much about retail therapy as it is the party. The Canary Islands enjoy a pretty low sales tax, so Tenerife is a great place to bag a bargain. Hit up Avenida de las Americas for Armani, Hugo Boss, Lacoste and more, or head to the Safari Shopping Centre for high-street names and a nightly Vegas-style fountain light show. For all your sarong and souvenir needs, check out the Costa Adeje Market, which is held every Thursday and Saturday near Fanabe Beach.

When to go to Playa de las Americas

Do you want to sizzle on the beach and the dance floor? A Playa de las Americas holiday will not disappoint. Out there in the southern Atlantic, this destination promises year-round sunshine and balmy temperatures between 20C and 30C.

Peak season lands in July and August, when both the bars and the beaches buzz seven days a week. And if you want to top up your tan in winter, the average temperature in December and January is a delicious 23C.

For a cheap Playa de las Americas holiday, book in October or March, when the sun still shines, but the party crowds are yet to descend.
